Decor Styling | Three Simple Tips

The Breakdown in 3 Easy Tips: Yes, everyone has their own “rules” for styling decor correctly. The truth is, that there is a bit of trial and error during the styling process before you evidently want to revamp your space with a new decor item or the seasons have changed. I am going to give you some simple styling tips for your everyday home decor that can help get you through all the seasons. Just like an outfit that has to be styled, home decor can make your home go from having a nice home to Wow, You have a Beautiful Home!

TIP 1. Don’t Over Think It

My first piece of advice that I have learned over the years, is that when you have set out your mission to decorate your space, your going to want to pull out every decor item you have. Collect items from around your home like vases, books, unique bowls and things of interest to you. Lay them all out on one table, look over everything and decide what you think works withing the space your styling and seperate what does work.

TIP 2. Layer, Stack Repeat

As a designer, to me this is the fun part. It is truly like a puzzle piece, shifting things around to see what will work and what does not work. If your a beginner, I would keep the rule of 3 in the back of your mind just to keep it easier and more straight forward. Try taking 3 different types of items and layering them together. For example, you could start with a tray, stack a couple of books then put a decor wooden knot on top.

TIP 3. Trial & Error

Now coming from the trial and error viewpoint may seem counterintuitive. However, hear me out. If you have set up all of your shelves with your layered decor, you need to step back and look at the whole picture. Does something feel unbalanced or just off? Maybe you feel like hey that one shelf just does not look that great. So therefore pull down the items or redo the shelves that feel like they need more balance or a little bit of TLC.

Don’t forget about the textiles. Pillows, curtains and throw pillows are also a key part of decor styling. Design By: Studio Mcgee

Final Thoughts…

Now you have come to the point where you can decide if you need to supplement by purchasing some more decor items. If the shelves and your walls are just looking a little too bare or not in the design realm you were trying to achieve, then this is when I would look at doing some shopping or going to your local Antique/ Thrift store to see what all you can find. Keep in mind, things like curtains and pillows really add to an overall well decorated space.

Now be brave and give it a shot, half of decor styling is trial and error till it feels right anyways, so you have nothing to lose!
